“Doctor of Professional Studies is a professional practice doctorate degree, recognized by Carnegie Foundation and the Department and Education for degree-granting Universities.  It is at the same degree level as other known professional practice doctorates, such as MD (Doctor of Medicine) or DDS (Doctoral of Dental Science). The first DPS degree is offered by the Pace University (New York) in Computing in 1954 as a parallel doctoral degree with their Ph.D. in Computing program.  This type of degree focuses on professional practice and aims to prepare practitioner-scholars rather than a Ph.D. degree aims to prepare academic scholars. The need for the professional doctorate has continued rising and will be a trend in the next 10-15 years for advanced degrees. ”
