International Women’s Day 2014

Valentine’s day celebrates relationships and mother’s day celebrates women who have given birth or raised children. There is one holiday though that truly celebrates the achievements and progress of women as free individuals that contribute in endless ways to the progress of society. That is International Women’s Day observed March 8 of every year. Celebrating the achievements of women is very important because women are the carriers of culture. Historically, while men have left their homes to engage in endless wars and conflict women have remained as the true preserves of tradition, language, religion, art and community knowledge. As such the roles that women have played and continue to play are the essential foundation of durable peace and prosperity of society as a whole. Happy International Women’s day!
